February 17 - 21

I hope everyone enjoyed the three-day weekend!

NOTE: There will be no current events quiz this week, since we are finishing Gatsby and quizzing on that instead on a Scantron-less paper. We will prep for a roundtable current event discussion about homelessness for next week in lieu of the quiz this week.

TUESDAY: Journal warm-up. Gatsby practice argument prompt contest in groups. "Gatsby for your generation" group activity. Share results.

Due: Read Chapter 8, The Great Gatsby.

Please upload the typed draft of the Adversity argument prompt to Turnitin.com by Monday night, February 17, 11:59 p.m.

Homework: Please read Chapter 9, (finish The Great Gatsby).  Be ready to discuss.

THURSDAY: Journal warm-up. Gatsby quiz (write-in, no Scantron). Discuss Gatsby questions, including the places in the book where it was clear Gatsby could not ever truly break into the upper echelon. Go through a sample argument prompt and actual student responses as a class.

Due: Please read Chapter 9, (finish The Great Gatsby).

Homework: Please read and annotate "Excerpts from On the Clock" page 1 - 9 in the Gatsby Extension Pack, as well as "The Gig Economy is Coming For Your Job" plus comments, pages 41 - 47.

If you know which field or profession you're interested in, how has technology changed it over the last ten years? How do you imagine or how is technology projected to change this profession or field in the next ten years? Be ready to discuss.
